FREE FRIDAY: Michael Alan, Alien.

Our Free Friday this week is a new musical work from Michael Alan. Falling somewhere between “this is your brain on drugs” and lo-fi experimental the most charming elements have to be when he samples his mom for several of the tracks. Known for his Living Installation and Painting work, Alan’s CD certainly isn’t for the faint of heart but definitely worth an early listen. Hear some of the tracks below.

Free Friday: Tentacles Coloring Book from John Jennison.

This FREE FRIDAY comes to your courtesy of John Jennison and one of my favorite coloring books, “Tentacles.” Made up of the many limbed sea creatures of Jennison’s devising, “Tentacles” will help you reconnect with your inner (somewhat morbid) child. Check out more of Jennison’s work here (and don’t forget to grab a copy of his “adult” comic as well.)

FREE FRIDAY!: The Phantom Family Halo, WHITE HOT GUN.

The Phantom Family Halo released their brand-new record, When I Fall Out, this past February. You can pick up the record online via iTunesAmazon, and the Knitting Factory Records store. The record is also available in your local record store.

About The Phantom Family Halo:

Originally from Allentown, PA, Dominic Cipolla has called Louisville KY, home for more then 20 years. During his early years in Louisville, as well as playing in bands including seminal Louisville collective Sapat, he formed a friendship and musical connection with Michael McMahan (The For Carnation/Slint). After playing in several bands together, including the Louisville favorite Starkiller, Cipolla began writing and recording The Legend Of Black Six, the first release under the name Phantom Family Halo. Other then enlisting McMahan for some guitar wizardry, it would be the first of several records that he was mainly responsible for the writing, instrumentation and recording process. In 2009 the same solo approach was used again for the sprawling double L.P., Monoliths and These Flowers Never Die, and in 2010 with the soundtrack Music From Italian T.V. (Read more.)

As a special bonus The 22 Magazine will be giving away a free download of WHITE HOT GUN for our premier of FREE FRIDAY!, a new section of freebies on Friday’s.
