Yossi Milo Gallery is pleased to announce Lakes, Trees and Honeybees, an exhibition of new photographs and prints by Matthew Brandt from his series Lakes and Reservoirs, Trees, Honeybees and Taste Tests in Color. The exhibition will open on Thursday, May 24, and will be on view through Saturday, June 30, with a reception for the artist on Thursday, May 24, from 6:00–8:00PM. This will be Matthew Brandt’s first exhibition with the gallery and his first solo exhibition in New York. Matthew Brandt creates his prints using physical elements from the subject itself. Inspired by landscape photography of the American West – especially its correlation to the methods of printing and making images during photography’s infancy in the mid-nineteenth century – the artist revives traditional photographic techniques through various production processes, including handmade papermaking and gum-bichromate.

Supernumerary by Stephanie Valente.

she is petulant; partly,
of feathers, even after
the mourners come and go

stand on a man’s legs,
and bathe in the water
this is what they told her
in the backyard that day, full
of professional mourners
that come and go
they are thick, floating
on webbed legs,

and still, there is writhing
bergamot, rosemary, rose hips
set to lips, white-washed
to kiss her through netting,
clapped hands
but, to catch a bird,
that is the real feat.

Stephanie Valente lives in New York. One day, she would like to be a silent film star. Her work has appeared in or is forthcoming from dotdotdash, Nano Fiction, LIES/ISLE, and Uphook Press. She can be found at http://kitschy.tumblr.com

Regina Silveira @ Alexander Gray
May 26 – July 29, 2011

Alexander Gray Associates is pleased to present the gallery’s second exhibition with the Brazilian artist, Regina Silveira. Since the 1960s, Silveira’s work has defied genre, moving between forms of installation, printmaking, sculpture and photography to explore visual distortion, perspective and scale.

For her exhibition at the gallery, Silveira presents her signature vinyl-decal mural-installations. The main installation, from her celebrated series, Desaparencia, depicts black and white diagrams of artists’ ateliers, graphically suggesting the ghosts of easels, tables, palettes, and other tools of the artist’s studio. In its iteration at Alexander Gray Associates, Silveira’s installation suggests the disappearance of traditional studio practice and location, as well as expectations of creation and alchemy that surround artistic mythology.
